Twin Temple Festival Attracts Crowds, Plaosan’s Historical Value Inspires Harmony

KLATEN The peak of the Twin Temple Festival in Bugisan Village, Prambanan, Klaten, on Saturday [23/5/2026], drew significant public attention and enthusiasm. Visitors came to witness firsthand a blend of culture, history, and interfaith harmony.
This was conveyed by Festival Committee Chairman Irvan Satria Priambodo while preparing the event at the courtyard of Plaosan Temple, Prambanan, Klaten, on Friday [22/5/2026].
According to Irvan, the 9th-century Plaosan Temple complex stands as tangible evidence of Buddhists and Hindus living side by side during the Ancient Mataram era.
“This historical value can inspire people to nurture harmony amid differences in belief,” he said.
Chairman of the Indonesian FKUB Association, Ida Pangelingsir Agung Putra Sukahet, described the festival as a cultural performance that strengthens community harmony.
“The Twin Temple Festival in Bugisan Village, Prambanan, Klaten, is a cultural creation that strengthens harmony in society,” said Ida Pangelingsir, who confirmed he would attend the peak event.
He noted that the heritage of temples standing side by side serves as a reminder that tolerance has been rooted in Prambanan for centuries.
“That value needs to be revived through activities involving residents, artists, and interfaith leaders in Bugisan Village, Prambanan, Klaten,” he said.
The Klaten Regency Religious Harmony Forum [FKUB] and the Indonesian FKUB Association support the event as part of strengthening harmony at the village level and inspiring world peace.
The presence of representatives from various religious communities is expected to keep the atmosphere inclusive, safe, and peaceful, making it a means of nurturing harmony.
“The Twin Temple Festival is not only a cultural event, but also a moment to strengthen harmony and encourage the establishment of Religious Harmony Sections down to the RT/RW level in Klaten,” he said.
The event’s peak was closed with the rebutan gunungan tradition, an expression of joy and gratitude during the village’s merti desa cultural procession.
The gunungan, filled with agricultural produce and traditional snacks, was paraded through the procession and immediately swarmed by residents once it ended. The tradition symbolizes sharing blessings and strengthening togetherness among residents regardless of background.
The committee hopes that with the high public enthusiasm, the entire series of events will run smoothly, safely, and peacefully.
